Lives: What are they and how do they work?

This guide explains how lives are lost, how to check your remaining lives, and what happens when you reach zero.

Quick summary: You begin with 5 lives. Currently, only deaths caused by another player consume a life. At zero lives, you are sent to the Afterlife and must complete a trial to return. Upon return, you will start again with 5 lives.

What Is a Life?

A life represents one opportunity to remain in the main survival worlds.

Your lives are separate from your health and hunger. Losing hearts does not affect your life total unless the resulting death meets the requirements for consuming a life.

Lives are tied directly to you, and cannot be dropped, traded, transferred, or stolen.

No one has discovered another way to interfere with them... yet.

How Many Lives Do I Start With?

Every new player begins with 5 lives.

Tip: Other players cannot view your life count through commands or the scoreboard. You may choose to keep it private or share it.

Use the following command to check your current total:

/lives Or look at the scoreboard on the right side of the screen.

Tip: Check your lives regularly, especially after participating in PvP.

What Causes You to Lose a Life?

You lose one life when you are killed by another player.

Examples may include:

• Being defeated in direct PvP
• Being shot by another player
• Being killed by a player-owned projectile

Indirect PvP Deaths

Any player must deal the killing blow in order for the life loss to count. For example, hitting a player into lava or a non-pvp trap does NOT count.

What Does Not Consume a Life?

Under the current system, ordinary environmental and mob deaths do not consume a life.

Examples include:

• Fall damage without another player’s involvement
• Lava or fire without another player’s involvement
• Drowning
• Starvation
• Suffocation
• Explosions caused naturally
• Deaths caused by ordinary mobs

However, keep inventory is disabled. Even when a death does not consume a life, you can still drop and lose your items.

Important: “No life lost” does not mean “no consequences.”

Where Can I Lose a Life?

PvP is enabled throughout the survival worlds.

PvP is disabled in:

• Spawn
• The Afterlife

Protection ends once you leave spawn. All new players have a grace period of 10 minutes. If a new player with a grace period attacks another player, their grace period will end early.

What Happens When I Lose a Life?

When a qualifying death occurs:

1. One life is removed from your total.
2. Your inventory drops because keep inventory is disabled.
3. You respawn at Spawn or your respawn point if unobstructed.
4. You can check your new total with /lives.

If you still have at least one life remaining, you may continue playing normally.

What Happens at Zero Lives?

When you lose your final life, you are sent to the Afterlife.

You cannot return to the main survival worlds until you prove your worth by completing one of the Afterlife trials.

These trials are tests created by [REDACTED]. Their difficulty may increase after repeated trips to the Afterlife.

While in the Afterlife:

• PvP is disabled.
• You cannot return through ordinary teleport commands.
• No items are attainable in the Afterlife.
• Communication with living players is allowed... for now.
• Any trial can be attempted immediately.
• Failed trials do not pose any consequences. You must retry any trial until completion.

How Do Afterlife Trials Work?

To return to the living world:

1. Open the trial menu, or use one of the NPCs
2. Attempt any one of the available trials.
3. Upon completing a trial, you will have proven yourself and be resurrected.
4. Return to Spawn.
5. Resume playing with 5 lives.

Trial Difficulty

Trials may become more difficult after a number of resurrections.

Can I Gain Additional Lives?

Successfully completing an Afterlife trial allows you to return after losing your final life.

Other methods of gaining lives have not yet been discovered.

Lives cannot currently be:

• Purchased from the server store
• Traded between players
• Stolen from other players
• Transferred between alternate accounts

Can Another Player Steal My Lives?

Not currently.

Other players can kill you and cause you to lose a life, but they do not automatically receive the life you lost.

PvP and Life-Saving Advice

To protect your remaining lives:

• Avoid unnecessary fights.
• Do not accept unexpected teleport requests.
• Keep your best equipment ready for PvP.
• Carry food, healing items, and an escape option.
• Do not reveal your coordinates publicly.
• Travel with teammates you trust.
• Remember that friendly fire may be enabled.
• Keep spare equipment hidden in case you die.
• Check /lives before entering a dangerous area.

Bugs and Incorrect Life Losses

If you believe a life was removed incorrectly:

1. Record the approximate time of the death.
2. Save screenshots or video evidence.
3. Write down your location and the players involved.
4. Do not recreate or exploit the suspected bug.
5. Open a support ticket through Discord.

Staff may restore a life when an unintended loss is confirmed. Restoration is not guaranteed.

Do not contact or ping individual staff members unless asked to do so.
